IBB Pres. Reps Band at Parks Showcase

IBB President William Kaempfe tells Lynn Larson, Recreation Supervisor of the Oak Brook Park District, about the Illinois Brass Band's repertoire at the Suburban Parks and Recreation Entertainment Showcase in Des Plaines.
Illinois Brass Band President William Kaempfe represented the IBB at the 2013 Suburban Parks and Recreation Entertainment Showcase Tuesday, November 19, at the Prairie Lakes Community Center in Des Plaines.

"It was a great opportunity for me and one of our band members, Jim Hatfield, to meet with the planners and coordinators who book concerts for Chicago-area communities," Kaempfe, said. "Emails and phone calls are efficient but nothing beats face-to-face contact as a way to get future bookings for IBB."

More than 80 entertainment groups were represented at the showcase with bands ranging from the Banjo Buddies and Libido Funk Circus to the Chicago Skyliners Big Band. "The IBB was the largest ensemble represented and the only brass band - unless you count the guys at the table across from ours - the Brass Buckle Rock Band," said Kaempfe who, along with Hatfield, handed out dozens of business cards, flyers, and CD samplers.

"We know this kind of marketing pays off for us in terms of bookings. If planners can meet you and hear what you're all about you move higher on the list of choices they have when they schedule their concerts," he added.
